From interviews with Tod D. Swanson

English Translation
We call it the flute bird. It sounds like when they play a pingullu (flute). That's how it sings, "pingulí!." pingullu (flauta). "pingulí"
And (when they hear that) those agoutis, out there in the swamp, where there are thickets, the agoutis lift up their hands and stand moving their heads (to the music) like this.
The agoutis? (Yes), the agoutis.
My father used to say that if you go out to the swamp at the time the bird sings you can kill an agouti.
Then if the agoutis are there, and the agoutis jump up, then it sings because that bird sings (on purpose) for the agoutis to dance.
They sing at afternoon, 5 o’clock. And also they sing early in the morning.
If the agouti is close by it will make him happy, my Dad used to say because it's the agouti's music. It was their dance music, (music) for the agoutis to dance.
If you go at that hour they will be moving their heads like this.
They don't notice the coming of the hunter because they are standing there, paying attention to the music of the bird's singing.
They are standing there moving their heads like this. Meanwhile the hunter comes looking for them. He shoots and kills them while they are moving their heads to the beat.
Have you killed one? Yes I killed one hitting it on the head. The bird was singing but it fell silent when it heard my shot. Yes. I shot and it fell silent right then. Since the dancer it was playing for had died it stopped.

Spanish Translation
Nosotros llamamos el pájaro flauta. Suena como cuando tocan un pingullu (flauta). Así se canta, "¡pingulí!". pingullu (flauta). "pinguli"
¿Has matado a uno?
