English Translation
Look! There was a daughter who lived all alone with her mother. And this girl used to gather snails and crawfish and fish to feed her mother.
She she would go to the forest, go to the forest (looking for food). (So one day) she went out to the forest looking for greens; And as she was out there gathering she met a big fat guy.
When she ran into him (out there), she asked herself, “Where did this guy come from?” Then the man, (who was actually a tapir) says, “I love with you.” (He wanted to marry her)
"Why would I marry a fat guy?", she thought to herself. She didn't want him.
Since she didn't want to (marry him), she took the greens and left. She left, but then (another day) went back out there again.
He was waiting for her with the leaves of this plant (Psychotria cenepensis) carefully crushed. That's why they call it tapir love medicine.
He waited to embrace her and rub her with the crushed leaves. So the tapir-man surprised her with a hug.
He hugged her and rubbed her (with the leaves). After that she felt for him, and out of so much feeling for him, she began to love him.
When she arrived home her mother wanted to feed her the greens, but she didn’t want to eat. “Why aren’t you eating?” she was asked, and she began to cry like water.
“Why are you crying, daughter?” “Mama, in the forest I met a fat person.”
“I saw him, then I went to another place, and I saw him there too.”
“I found the same man again. I went somewhere else, and he surprised me and hugged me while I was gathering palm hearts.”
“I don’t know what he bathed me with, but after he bathed me, I started missing him, feeling for him.”
“I feel for him, Mama. Now what am I going to do?” (She was so lovesick that) she didn’t want to eat.
Carrying her basket, she went out again. Again? Yes again. And there she met him again. Then the man took her away (as his wife) and hid her.
When he took her away, he would only bring her morete fruits (to eat). Just morete. All her husband ate was morete.
Moretes, only moretes he brought, eating just that. She got tired of drinking and eating only that.
“Mama, I’m leaving now. This man is taking me. He told me he has a big house and I’m going there.”
“Who is the man who’s taking you?” “He’s a fat guy,” she said.
“I’m going with him, and I’ll bring you morete fruits,” she said. She kept bringing them, bringing them—and then she disappeared.
When she disappeared, her brothers started searching (for her) with dogs. They followed the tracks to see where she was.
Her husband made her climb a huge ficus tree—It was an enormous tree that was standing there.
They gathered a heap of those (ficus fruits) to make their chicha. The fruit had soften and fermented.
They say that they all got very drunk drinking that, the pumas, the peccaries, the tapirs—they were all people (then).
They met there. The jaguar said, “I will eat your wife. I will eat her". "I will beat you,” (the tapir husband) said.
The tapir was drunk. He was a big fat man, and they fought.
They fought with each other. While fighting, he threw the ocelot down, threw him far away, dead.
Then another one came. He was painted from the feet up, very beautiful.
He defeated that one too. “You wanted to eat my wife?” With these teeth, he broke the ocelot’s teeth—wim!—and threw him far away.
After killing him and getting drunk, he laid down in a big house with big roots. That was his house. “That’s his house?”
There he lay down to sleep. The brothers were searching and found footprints.
“Mama, let’s look with uncle’s dog—let’s look with that.” And the sister was sitting up above.
She bit the poor man who was drunk. He got up and ran away.
He went to the river and fell in. He was swimming, and the brothers chased him with spears and killed him.
When she came down, he walked funny—legs spread apart.
That tapir made her private parts grow with a plant—so big she couldn’t walk, it was huge.
He made it grow with a plant. “Was it heavy?” Yes, it was really heavy. That’s what he did.
“I didn’t leave willingly. I went because I loved my husband. Why did you kill him like that?” Seeing this, the woman began growing hair.
She was growing hooves; she was turning into a tapir. She wanted to bite the uncle, the brothers, the mother—she was chasing them.
They were chasing her. Then they tied her hands and feet. She wouldn’t stay at home. She just wanted to go to the forest. The dogs killed her, chasing her through the forest. “That woman?”
That’s the end of the story. This plant—sígueme, sígueme—that tapir used it to mess with the woman. The tapir knew that this plant was sígueme, sígueme (follow me).
That woman didn’t want him, saying he was fat, ugly, big and wide. “Who would marry him?” she said.
That tapir collected tender leaves and made a powder. Then he rubbed her with those leaves.
He dried them in the sun and rubbed her with that. She had been running away from the tapir, and later escaped with the same tapir.
That’s why the elders call it sígueme, sígueme of the tapir. “Just now you were laughing—saying the woman turned into a tapir and had a big vagina?”
Yes, she had a big vagina. The tapir used runduma—that’s what messed her up. He bathed her with that, and her vagina grew very large.
She couldn’t walk. She walked like “calla!”—burned. Her vagina had grown; it was too heavy to walk.
He used runduma, the tapir. That’s what made her vagina grow. “Why did he do that?” So that her vagina would grow.
The man made it grow in his wife. She couldn’t walk. She was growing lots of hair. She didn’t want to live with her mom; she went to the forest.
The dogs that were chasing the tapir were hunting. They followed until they killed her. “The woman?” Yes, the tapir-woman. “Aunt, did she die leaving children?” I don’t think so.
“You didn’t have a vagina,” he told her. “You didn’t have one.” He scraped a bit of that plant, rubbed her, bathed her—and made it grow that big.
“Is that why the tapir has a big vagina?” Yes, that’s why she has a big vagina.
“Why was the woman’s small?” Yes, the woman’s was small. He made it that big—because the tapir has a large penis.
He couldn’t have sex, so he made it grow by rubbing her with that plant. “Do they still walk like that?” Yes, they walk side to side because of their big vaginas.
That’s the end of the story. You’ve brought me just to make me laugh!
